Live Broadcasting in 4K HDR with Transformation Church | Nanlite Case Study
Jan 23rd 2025
When you host 1500 to 2000 people to worship in person and have 35,000 to 50,000 visitors watching online, you need to make sure your level of production is as high as possible to keep these large audiences engaged. This is the situation Transformation Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma finds themselves in, and one thing they do to meet the need is to broadcast in 4K HDR resolution. Lighting is always important, but when you’re delivering such high-definition content to so many people, it becomes paramount.
To continuously improve the quality of their content, Chad Vegas, the Live and Film Director of the church, incorporated several Nanlite Forza LED Spotlights into their workflows. These lights are designed to be as compact and lightweight as possible, while still delivering the most accurate output possible, and being durable enough to handle daily use on professional sets.
The benefits were immediately apparent to Vegas, “Normally with other lights that are comparable to the Forza Series lights, they're heavier and the weight distribution's just a little bit off. However, these lights are lightweight and easy to set up. We love it because we can basically take it down quickly, break it down quickly, move to another set, move to another location, and set it up with relative ease.”
Transformation Church also added several 4-foot Nanlite PavoTube II 30C LED Tube Lights to their kits. Again, their ease of use and space-efficient, lightweight design was immediately appreciated, “We are currently in the process of writing a brand-new album, and within that we wanted to start shooting a documentary-style film around that. We were able to use the PavoTubes to light our subjects because we were in a small tight space and the PavoTubes allowed us to be able to light our subjects in that tight space and have ease of use of the Bluetooth app.”
Many Nanlite fixtures feature DMX/RDM, LumenRadio CRMX, and 2.4G for wireless control options, but they all have built-in Bluetooth for use with the free NANLINK mobile app, which is available for iOS and Android, and which also has additional free versions for iPad OS and Android tablets.
Even though every Nanlite fixture delivers highly accurate light with durable build qualities, they do so at surprisingly budget friendly prices. Even at large organizations like Transformation Church, it never hurts to be able to accomplish more with your allotted budget.
“Another thing that really surprised me was the actual price point for these fixtures,” said Vegas, “I really believe that even though for us, we have higher budgets, but we do have a budget, and so being able to just have a fixture that is at a price point that is amazingly well fit for not just large churches or medium churches, but even small churches.”
